A Florida Baptist church that recently opened its pulpit to a registered sex offender has been asked to withdraw from its local association of Southern Baptist churches.

Though many people are totally up in arms over a registered sex offender, Darrell Gilyard now preaching again, the members of his new church support him and is giving him a chance. But there are many who are calling for his voluntary resignation from this church so the children can be allowed back in the church.

Gilyard, 49, said he accepted the late January offer to preach at Christ Tabernacle Baptist Church because "he needed money" and felt God calling him back into ministry. Being a registered sex offender was making it hard for him to get jobs in prison ministries or working with ex-offenders, he added.
